What was your athletic background, if any?

I wrestled a little bit in High School, and ran and worked out on my own some.  Then I ran cross country for a year in college and did club wrestling. 

What do you do when you're not at CFA?

I work a full time job, volunteer with ministries at my church, and am always trying to learn something new.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

My wrestling coaches in college occasionally had us do crossfit type workouts after practice, and I liked them enough to start doing them on my own.  The difficulty of the workouts, the completely dead feeling afterwards, and the amount of hard work had me hooked.    

Do you remember your first WOD?

I don’t remember what the very first WOD was, but I do remember doing “Karen” within the first few days of starting at CFA and thinking how much they sucked!

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

Least: Double Unders and overhead squats. Favorite: pull ups and power cleans. 

What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?

I don’t know that there was really anything that I didn’t think I could do if I worked at it, but it definitely seems some days like I’m never going to get DU’s and ring MU’s.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Going all out and giving everything I can, and seeing what I am able to do as a result.  My desire is to glorify God through the way I workout in putting in everything that I have, and I think that the person I am forging during a tough workout translates into every area of my life.

What's are your favorite things about CrossFit?

I love working out with other people and having that community, a good bit of competitiveness, and the ability to see progress in many areas.

What are your short term and long term goals?

Short term: To get DU’s and Ring MU’s!!!
Long term:  To gain strength and build weight on my power lifts.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after?)

Though I have always been a super hard gainer, I have definitely bulked up a noticeable amount since starting CrossFit.  Before I started CrossFit I was having quite a bit of joint pain in my knees and hips, and that has pretty much completely gone away.  I have also starting eating a lot healthier and overall just feel like I have more energy. 

Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?  

Just do it and keep at it!  It is an investment worth making, and so much more than a Gym membership.  Make a decision to move forward and progress every day.  Even if the progress is small, it will build up to incredible change!

Coach's comment:

Since starting CrossFit, I think I can count on one hand the amount of days that Caleb hasn't been in the gym. He is always looking for things to work on to make him better even if it is outside of the normal class. What was even more impressive was Caleb and his partner won our in-house compeition in September just a couple weeks after they both started off at CFA. He has improved dramatically on everything since Sept. and we have no doubt he will continue to work hard and keep getting better and better! We will miss him at CFA when he moves to Germany at the end of February.
