What do you do when you're not at CFA?

I spend a lot of my time working for Harry and his family at their two party stores here in Allendale. Otherwise you can find me spending time with friends, or sleeping.

What led you to Crossfit and CFA specifically?

Harry referred me to CFA. I had been wanting to start working out, but never had the motivation until he convinced me to come.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

I realized CrossFit was right for me after I found out that all the horror stories about CrossFit weren't true. Between the people and the energy it really is the best hour of my day.

Do you remember your first WOD?

I actually do not remember my first WOD. I have to imagine it wasn't too horrible though.

What movement do you despise over everything and why?

I despise overhead squats! Something about locking my arms and balancing a heavy weight over my head just really doesn't do it for me.

What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?

My all-time favorite moment has to be between my first double under and my first back squat over 200lbs.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Just knowing that there's no shame in taking my time and getting through whatever the WOD might be. Also knowing that it has to end at some point helps too.

If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?
would write up some kind of cardio strength combo. Probably a ladder WOD alternating running and lifting.

What are your goals going forward and what do you think will help you achieve them?

My goals going forward are to continue to condition my upper body and core to be able to pass the coast guard's fitness requirements. Between CrossFit and light exercise at home I have confidence that I can achieve this.


What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness or just day to day life since starting CrossFit (before/after?)

Of course I've noticed my muscles getting bigger and my belly getting smaller. I've noticed an increase in energy throughout my day, and my eating habits have gotten so much better thanks to Josh giving me some pointers.


What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit?

I would just say that there's no shame in scaling whatever it is that you're doing, and that fitness is a journey where we all start in different places.

If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be? Or which other CFA member are you the most motivated by?

I am definitely most motivated by Harry Singh. He got me into CFA and I wouldn't be where I am without him and the encouragement he gives me.

From day 1 to now, I’ve got to say that Dan has made some awesome progress. In the last six months Dan has improved his health dramatically. At the beginning he had a tough time finishing workouts and was new to most of the exercises. Now he has gotten much faster, can finish each workout and his technique has improved greatly on every single movement. Dan brings a positive attitude and solid work ethic to each class and he is also one of the most friendly members you will find. We are very happy that Harry brought Dan into CFA and proud of how far he has come in such a short time. Next on the agenda is to get rid of his fear of heights. Keep up the hard work Dan!
