What was your athletic background, if any?

 I worked out at Curves, Grand Haven BootCamp.

What do you do when you're not at CFA?

I keep busy being a taxi driver for our youngest and helping our 3rd daughter with 4th.. I like to read when i can find the time!!

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

The end of 2016 I didn't like how i felt or how i looked, i knew Gary and I needed something to get us healthier. I figured if we did it together we could keep each other accountable.. So i asked for a crossfit membership for Christmas and it was one of the best gifts I could have received!!

Do you remember your first WOD?

I don't remember the first WOD, but i do remember for a warm up that we had to run from one end of the building to the other with a med ball and feeling like I was dieing!!

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

My least favorite i would have to say is running, and the OHS!!

What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?

I would have to say doing the Murph last Memorial Day!!  I was so impressed with myself just being there for only 4-5 months and being able to do all and finish was such a big deal to me!!

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Thinking to myself look how far you have come, and saying to myself you are doing this to become more healthy.. and also the GREAT ENCOURAGEMENT PEOPLE GIVE YOU WHILE WORKING OUT!! 

What's are your favorite things about CrossFit?

It's not only a great place to work out but Josh and Kate are great coaches! People you work out with become your great motivators  also!! Its lilke we are all a big family rooting each other on to be the best you can be!!

What are your short term and long term goals?

To continue to push myself and do better each time i work out or lift!!
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after?)

I dont feel as sluggish or have the afternoon crash like I used too!!  I am more energetic, I sleep better at night, my clothes fit so much better!!  I would rather go for a walk now on Sunday afternoons instead of laying on the couch!!  I am also training for a 5k the end of May with our youngest daughter.. Never thought I would ever be doing that didn't think I could do it, now I know I can!
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?

You will be sore  and frustrated at times, but it is so worth it!!  Stick to it and you will be AMAZED  at what you can do!!

Coach's comment:

Deb and her husband Gary have both been super consistent since they started with us for Couch to CrossFit in Jan of 2017. I am not quite sure they knew what they were getting themselves into but have been ultra consistent with showing up and giving it their all ever since. Deb has make a lot of gains in her fitness. She really struggled with sit-ups upon starting and they have without a doubt become much easier. Although she doesn't like to run, she will tell you that she has gotten better at it and faster!! The reason we picked Deb is she is one of those members who will always give it her best and I don't think I've ever heard her complain. Plus she did the 2018 CrossFit Games Open and our Macro challenge. With all of her success thus far we look forward to seeing her continue her CF journey into the future!
