What was your athletic background, if any?

I did shotput and discus for track in high school and a little gymnastics.  

What do you do when you're not at CFA?

I garden, hunt, play with my fur children, and cook.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

When I first heard or Crossfit, I was not sure what it was. After I watched some youtube videos, I started getting pumped by the energy that was portrayed in the videos. And how that it is not how well you do in comparison to others, but how well you do for yourself. I enjoyed weight lifting in the past and thought I might give it a shot. After coming to CFA, I knew that this was the place for me.   

Do you remember your first WOD?

I just remember a lot of thrusters and was wondering if I was going to make it through the workout.

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

Least: Thrusters and lateral bar jumps. Favorite: double-unders(now that I can kind of do them) and sit ups.

What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?

Double unders! I'm still working on my complex with box jumps. I will get there eventually.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

When I feel like giving up, I look at others for motivation. I will take a break and tell myself that if others are pushing through, that I can too. I especially enjoy the hero WODs. It feels like there is a person behind the workout, even if I don't know them, and push myself harder.

What's are your favorite things about CrossFit?

I enjoy CFA as my social hour. If it was not for the people, I probably would not have stayed. I love the feeling of when I am done and know that I accomplished something.  

What are your short term and long term goals?

Short term: Get that 14 lb wall ball to the line every time!!!

Long term: Big girl box jump and pull ups.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after?

 I am stronger than I have been before. I also no longer want to cry when there is running in the WOD. I hated how much we ran last summer, but now enjoying it.

Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?
Just do your best. It doesn't matter that you may be doing less weight that everyone else or if they are faster. You do your best. And don't give up, we all start somewhere.

Hillary is one of those people who we really enjoy to work with. You will never hear her complain, she will embrace the suck and give it everything she has got. Since starting CrossFit, Hillary has made incredible progress in all elements of fitness. She has gotten stronger and faster while improving gymnastic ability and endurance. When there is something she wants to get better at you will see her after class often putting in some extra practice. She was also a little timid when starting off but after almost two years you can see a big difference in her confidence!! We look forward to see Hillary continue into the future and she has been a great addition to CFA since 2015!
