What do you do when you're not at CFA?

Mom life! I put my career on hold and have been home with kids for a few years now. We camp a ton, love boating and pretty much as much sun and outdoor time as I can get.

What led you to Crossfit and CFA specifically?

When I turned 38 I was told at a doc appointment that my cholesterol was bad, my blood pressure high and that medications were in my future. I also needed to drop some weight. I didn’t want to be on meds so I told my doctor to give me time to try and make some changes. I tried home exercise and some running but never stayed consistent. I had seen CFA many times as my husband’s business is next door but always thought CrossFit was only for the elite fit. After reading online I decided to give it a try and it’s the best decision I ever made for myself.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

I started at 2 days a week and it didn’t take long for me to change my membership to 3, then 4 and now I try to go 5 days a week. I knew this was the place I needed to be when I felt off on days I didn’t go and feel like I am missing it whenever I can’t  make a class.

Do you remember your first WOD?

Not exactly but I remember feeling like I could hardly move afterwards.

What movement do you despise over everything and why?

Wallballs! I have lost count on how many times I have hit myself in the face with the ball!

What has been your all-time favorite moment at CFA?

The second I finished Murph. When I first heard about it I thought it sounded impossible and I made it my goal for the year I turned 40. Finishing that was a huge proud moment for me.

What motivates you during a tough workout?

All of the other people also suffering through the same workout. The energy at the gym is awesome. The loud music, the camaraderie, the coaches and knowing that even when I am last that there’s no one looking down on you.

If you could write your own workout for a day, what would it be?

Strength would be squats or bench press and the WOD would be something with jump rope, pushups, pullups and abs.

What are your goals going forward and what do you think will help you achieve them?

To never stop doing CrossFit, I want to be as fit as I can be as I get older. I like seeing improvement in what I can do but really my goal is just to do my best and avoid injury. If the day ever comes where I can do a pull-up without a band that would be amazing.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness or just day to day life since starting CrossFit (before/after?)

So many positive changes! My health has definitely improved. Cholesterol is down over 25%, Blood pressure is great, weight wise I am down 10lbs and several inches all over. Mentally I feel awesome from all the exercise and it helps a ton with stress. Everyday things are also easier and I have way more energy. The biggest thing for me though is finally feeling good in a swimsuit again.

What would you recommend to someone who is just starting out with CrossFit or is too afraid to try it?

Just take the leap and show up. Everything can be scaled down so you never really feel defeated. It's hard and can be scary at first but it's so worth it.

If you could have one skill or characteristic of another member at CFA what and from whom would it be? Or which other CFA member are you the most motivated by?

I don't think I can pick one. I admire a lot of the people I workout with and find a good attitude inspirational. I am definitely motivated by anyone older than me kicking butt because I often have days where I think I am too old for this or doubt myself and then I get to the gym and see others working hard and that all goes away.

Quick Questions

Favorite Cheat Meal: Pizza

Favorite workout song: Hard to say. I love hip hop, especially 90’s rap

Favorite place you have traveled: Vegas is my jam!

Favorite Tv Show: Ummmm, I can't remember the last time I really watched TV. I miss Game of Thrones.

Favorite CrossFit Athlete (if any): All of them. It's a crazy hard sport and I know they work their asses off trying to be their best.
