I like to watch my kids play sports. Coach youth wrestling in Allendale and love to hunt and fish.
When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?
(Brett and family after our 5k in July)
When I realized the workouts are harder than any I would come with myself. It forced me to push myself farther than I ever would on my own.
Do you remember your first WOD?
Not a clue but it was probably hard.
What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?
Favorite: Bear complex and bench (of course)
What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?
Least: Any ab workout
(Brett with a 205# power clean during our summer in-house competition)
What motivates you during a tough workout?
The competition with others as well as myself. I am pretty hard on myself which drives me to push as hard as I can during workouts. Grunting definitely helps.
What's are your favorite things about CrossFit?
I enjoy the comradery with my fellow CrossFitters. We all struggle through the same tough workouts, and all share in the excitement of a new PR. The workouts push me way beyond my limits. In addition, no other gym has this level of accountability.
What are your short term and long term goals?
Short: Improve my double-under consistentcy and do a muscle-up.
Long: get better everyday.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after)?
I have become a lot stronger physically and mentally. Flexibility has increased significantly especially in my hips and wrists.
Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?
Believe in yourself and don’t give up. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Favorite Sports Team: Tigers, Red Wings, and Lions

Favorite CrossFit Athlete (if any): Josh Bridges (Love the mustache!)
Brett is well deserving for February's member of the month. He has been a consistent part of our 5:45am group for over a year and always comes in ready to work hard. Since starting crossfit he has become pro at rope climbs, kipping pull-ups, and HSPU's. Brett is also a great family man and an all around good dude. Keep up the great work, we look forward to seeing you progress into the future!
