What was your athletic background, if any?

I ran track my Freshman year, that’s it.  I do love volleyball and play whenever I can.

What do you do when you're not at CFA?

Work and spend time with family and friends.  We are expecting our 2nd grandchild in January.  I love to camp and be outdoors.

When did you realize that CrossFit is right for you?

I think it only took a few weeks.  I love a challenge and CrossFit has challenged me in ways I never knew anything could.

Do you remember your first WOD?

I don’t remember the WOD, I just remember being petrified and intimidated.

What is your favorite or least favorite WOD/movement?

Least: Wall Balls, anything with wall balls. I just can’t figure them out.  Favorite: Back Squat and call me crazy, I liked the 5k challenge run.

What is the one thing you have done at CFA that you never thought you would do?

Climb a rope!  All the years of gym class I could never climb a rope, but I did it!

What motivates you during a tough workout?

Josh and/or Kate along with my CrossFit family. When you don’t think you can finish, there is always someone there to lift you up and push you through.  A little classic rock doesn’t hurt either (when Josh plays it).

What's are your favorite things about CrossFit?

I love that I can come in and look at the board and think how am I going to do that and then by the time the hour is over, I did it.  I LOVE the people who constantly throw encouragement out!  I come to CrossFit to escape life’s stress.  For one hour, I get to be selfish and focus on me.

What are your short term and long term goals?

Short term: To continue to get stronger and more confident in what I can do.  Long term: To get a pull up without using a band.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting CrossFit (before/after?)
I feel like CrossFit has changed me mind, body and spirit.  I have dropped 2 pant sizes, and I pay more attention to what I eat.  I am in the best shape I think I have ever been.  Not the smallest I have ever been, but the strongest and I feel good about that.

Do you have any advice for people just getting started at CFA?
CrossFit is the hardest thing I have ever done, but the most rewarding.  Stick with it, give it a chance.  Yes, you will be sore, but it’s a good sore.  I feel guilty when I have a day when I’m not sore.  The most important thing is ANYONE can do crossfit.

Quick Questions

Favorite Cheat Meal: Fried Chicken
Favorite Musician: I love classic rock (sorry child of the 80’s)
Favorite Sports Team: The Detroit Tigers and MSU Basketball
Favorite Tv Show:  The Amazing Race
Favorite CrossFit Athlete (if any): Sara Sigmundsdottir (I like her name)

Coach's comment:

We pick our member of the month based upon consistency, hard work and improvement. Christine shows all of these on a weekly basis. She rarely ever misses a day of CrossFit and really gives it her all every single day. Since starting with us she has improved every element of her fitness such as becoming a better and faster runner and much stronger. Plus, she has gotten her first rope climb and better at gymnastic movements! We have also seen such a mental change in Christine since she started. At first, she seemed very intimidated and scared of each workout but there has been a shift to knowing she can do each one and is ready to tackle it! Thanks for being an awesome member and supported of CFA Christine, we look forward to seeing you improve even more in the future!
